What Does "OEM" Mean?

"Original equipment manufacturer."

In the context of replacement parts, "OEM" means "original equipment manufacturer". It means the replacement part was manufactured by the same company that was involved in the factory production of the original unit. With regards to parts for Pentair pool heaters, Pentair would be considered the OEM. So, any parts made by them would be considered OEM parts. Conversely, if you go on eBay and look for (as an example) control board replacement parts for your Pentair pool heater, you will see a few options "compatible with Pentair" but not actually made by Pentair. Those would be the non-oem parts. The ones made by Pentair would be OEM.
